The Omar Tyree Show
The Omar Tyree Show is a groundbreaking 1/2-hour talk show that will touch on the diverse concerns of the community, dedicated to being the voice of the street. Mr. Tyree will merge the intelligence and warmth of Oprah Winfrey, the sophistication and political discussions of Tavis Smiley, with the aggressive “matter of fact” sentimentality of urban youth today. The Omar Tyree Show will tackle complicated issues in the community, but more uniquely, will cater to an audience starving for a voice in American culture and politics; the 18 to 39 year old African American demographic. Mr. Tyree will also dedicate a considerable amount of time to highlighting significant African American writers in America today, paying particular attention to Urban Street Lit authors.
As an orator, Tyree executes compelling commentary on topics such as "The State of Urban Literature" where he expounds on contemporary literature including his own work, "Leslie," which takes place in New Orleans and has received adequate reader attention post-Hurricane Katrina. A staunch believer in literary integrity, Tyree challenges authors of fiction and non-fiction to address issues in the community rather than simply capitalize from exploitive topics in their work. Additional speaking topics for Tyree includes: "The Life of MLK Jr.," and "Images of Women in the Media." Tyree says, "I plan to stay real busy doing what I do best for the rest of my life. And that's writing and speaking consistently on subjects that make people stand up and take notice."
